A Long way for a cash machine.

Day 6, Samedi, Long, 7th May
A Long way for a cash machine.

We decided last night to spend another night in Long. It seemed like a shame to move on so swiftly. We took a stroll up to the church, but it was closed so didn’t get a chance to see inside. We did however, use the rather basic outdoor toilet holes, some of which clearly had been used more than others and much more recently. It definitely wasn’t the most pleasant of toilet trips, but when you have to go.....

Having only 10 euro in cash we were in search of a cash machine. There was one in the tourist information centre, but only for people with French bank accounts. The lady behind the desk told us that there was one in the next village there was one behind the church which I can only believe now that she was having a laugh as after a long walk to the next village, there wasn’t even a church. Knowing then from experience that these villages are few and far between we made the long walk back to Long to collect the car and drove to the local (about 4 miles away) supermarket as I was sure I had seen one there, there wasn’t, but the lady there told us that there would be one in Flixecourt, about another 6 miles away.

We drove to Flixecourt and were for some reason, could have been the thought of cheap wine, were attracted to the Hypermarket thinking there would be a cash machine there. No. So into Flixecourt centre ville we went (about another mile), and a real sight for sore eyes there were 2 banks! With a months budget (300 euro) in our pocket, tired and hungry, we made our way back to the caravan where Bob opened a Fritterie, which was great, a whole bag of frozen frites cost only 1 euro and we still have half a bag left.
Since the frites Bob has been asleep on the grass. It is now just after 7pm and the sun is stil burning hot. I have found a ‘Guide to the Somme’ and have decided on our next destination, Amiens. It shouldn’t take too long to drive there and I want to get an early start so will probably have an early end to the day. I have been bitten a lot, I must have juicy flesh. My arms are about 17 shades darker than my legs, but cant bear the thought of wearing a woolly jumper and hot pants in this heat so I shall have to stay two tone for now.
A short entry for what seems like a long day, bob nuit, x.
